A Notice of Intended Marriage form must be completed and lodged with your celebrant at least 1 month and 1 day before the marriage (download NOIM here - www.ag.gov.au). This can be lodged up to 18 months before the wedding day;
The legal age for marriage in Australia is 18 years;
If you were born in Australia, you must show your original Birth Certificate or Extract;
If you were born overseas, you must show either your original Birth Certificate or passport from your country of birth;
If you have been married before, you must show evidence of how your last marriage ended - divorce papers or death certificate of your former spouse;
before the marriage takes place you must both sign a declaration saying that you are not married to another person, not closely related, over the age of 18 years and know of no legal impediments to the marriage.
All legal paperwork is lodged with the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages by your Celebrant.
If you are bringing your partner into Australia on a prospective spouse visa I can provide you with the necessary letter for the Department of Immigration.
