• A Notice of Intended Marriage form must be completed and lodged with your celebrant at least 1 month and 1 day before the marriage (download NOIM here - www.ag.gov.au).  This can be lodged up to 18 months before the wedding day;

•  The legal age for marriage in Australia is 18 years;

•  If you were born in Australia, you must show your original Birth Certificate or Extract;

• If you were born overseas, you must show either your original Birth Certificate or passport from your country of birth;

• If you have been married before, you must show evidence of how your last marriage ended - divorce papers or death certificate of your former spouse;

• before the marriage takes place you must both sign a declaration saying that you are not married to another person, not closely related, over the age of 18 years and know of no legal impediments to the marriage.  

• All legal paperwork is lodged with the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages by your Celebrant.

• If you are bringing your partner into Australia on a prospective spouse visa I can provide you with the necessary letter for the Department of Immigration.
